Position Overview & Responsibilities

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Program at Merrimack College invites applications for the open-rank faculty position of Program Coordinator in the Online CMHC program. The Program Coordinator, reporting directly to the Program Director, will have an opportunity for leadership in developing an innovative, high quality, and growth-oriented new online counseling training program which will launch in Fall 2022. The position is expected to maintain an on-campus, full-time presence at Merrimack College. This role’s primary focus is administrative management related to the promotion, development, and administration of the online CMHC program including supporting faculty recruitment, curriculum, scheduling of classes, accreditation, and strategic planning. The Program Coordinator will provide leadership in student enrollment, engagement, and retention goals; and monitor student performance while motivating, advising, and mentoring students. This role will be expected to teach 24 credits per year in the online program. The successful candidate should demonstrate experience/ ability to teach courses within the following content areas: Multicultural Counseling, Trauma & Crisis Intervention, Psychological Assessment, Evaluation and Treatment of Addictions, Diagnosis & Treatment Planning, and/or Research and Evaluation.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Develop, monitor, and update a 5-year strategic plan for the online CMHC program under the guidance of the Program Director. - Create and update all relevant academic materials for the online CMHC program, including but not limited to: course descriptions, catalog copy, plan of study forms, fact sheets, program charts, and any additional materials that pertain to the online program. - Facilitate the implementation of a yearly review of the online CMHC program which shall serve as an annual report, to be submitted to the Program Director at the end of each academic year. - Ensure the development and implementation of assessment for the online CMHC program, its’ courses, and student learning outcomes. - Alongside the Program Director, liaison with Meteor Learning and external partners for the monitoring and marketing of the online CMHC program. - Responsible for setting and achieving enrollment goals/metrics for the online program. - Provide timely and accurate advising to potential and current online CMHC graduate students about the academic program; including attendance at relevant in-person/ virtual open houses, informational sessions, admissions events, regular in-person/ virtual office hours, and other applicable internal or external events. - Consult with the Program Director to coordinate faculty teaching online courses to ensure consistency of course content with stated program goals and objectives, and, where applicable, coverage of relevant national and/or disciplinary standards, competencies, and state educational regulations. - Collaborate regularly with the Field Internship Coordinator(s) to identify appropriate field internship sites for the 12-month practicum and internship applied clinical training, cultivate relationships with new partners, and mutually address problems related to students’ field internship experiences in a manner consistent with state educational regulations for licensure and goals of the academic program. - Review all online CMHC program application materials and make modifications, as needed, to ensure their appropriateness for identifying suitable candidates for the online CMHC program; coordinating the one-week residency program for new and prospective students, and participating in the review of graduate fellowship applications for online graduate students, if applicable. - Assist the Program Director in identifying, making recommendations about, and participating, as needed, in the recruitment of faculty. - Work with the Graduate Admissions Office to evaluate and modify, if necessary, the admissions criteria for the online CMHC program; consulting with admissions, as needed, regarding any questions related to individuals’ candidacy for admission. - Partner with colleagues across campus to promote student success and engagement, and to address any concerns that may arise relevant to the online CMHC program. - Any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.


The candidate must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Counseling, Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, or a related doctoral degree. The candidate must have been employed as a full-time faculty for at least 3 years with experience advising and mentoring graduate students. The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience teaching predominantly graduate courses (preferably online) in counseling education at the college level. The candidate has at least 3 years of experience in online academic program development, management, and administration is preferred. The candidate must provide demonstrated experience in promoting Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Advocacy. The candidate is license eligible or holds licensure as a mental health counselor and/or a psychologist in the state of Massachusetts, in the New England region, or transferrable to the area and has a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience in the field. The Program Coordinator for the online CMHC program position will start as early as June 2022. A review of candidates will begin upon receipt of applications.

About the On-Ground and Online CMHC Program(s)

The new Online CMHC program will launch in Fall 2022. The Online CMHC program courses are taught asynchronously. Its program and curricular foundation are aligned with the existing 6year on-ground CMHC program. The existing on-ground Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program meets the growing demand for mental health counseling in a number of different settings, including outpatient centers, hospitals, colleges, human resource departments, and substance abuse treatment centers, non-profits, and government agencies. The Online CMHC program enables students to fulfill the education and degree requirements to apply for licensure primarily in the New England region (e.g., MA, NH, ME, VT, CT, and RI).
