| The Pomona College Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance. This is a full-time, 1-year, non-tenure-track, term position. The individual holding the position is expected to teach 5 courses per academic year which would include some form of a World Theatre History I and II. Depending on areas of expertise, the faculty member may also instruct courses in acting, dramaturgy and writing for performance. There is also the possibility of a main stage directing assignment if this is an area of specialty. (Directing of a main stage production is considered to be the equivalent of one regular course assignment). While there is no expectation of ongoing scholarship, or professional work outside the Department, such activities are encouraged as long as the individual clearly understands the full time nature of the position and the expectation of advising students and participating actively in the life of the Department.
The position requires a Ph.D. and/or M.F.A. degree. Either some experience with college teaching (beyond graduate assistantships) and/or significant professional experience is preferred. The candidate must understand the goals of theatre education within the liberal arts mission of the College, and embody these goals in their teaching. We seek an artist-teacher whose pedagogy, creative activity, and professional outlook uplifts diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion and has experience working with diverse student populations.
This appointment begins August 1, 2022.
