The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana is offering a

POSTDOC POSITION (F*M)

(full-time, 40h per week)

in the form of an employment for 30 months with a possible extension.

The advertised position will focus on the development of a quantum network in Slovenia, which is part of efforts towards implementing the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure. In particular, we will investigate novel sources of entanglement, and on advanced quantum communication protocols like measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution. The research will be performed in the broader context of the research of the Quantum Optics and Quantum Foundations group of Assoc. Prof. Rainer Kaltenbaek.

Your tasks:

  • Implement high-rate and reliable designs for demonstrating long-distance quantum key distribution using state-of-the-art single-photon detectors.

  • Researching and implementing novel sources of entanglement for long-distance quantum communication and for linking to quantum memories.

  • Collaborating with other research institutes and high-tech companies to facilitate implementing low-key and reliable quantum key distribution.

  • Collaborate with international partners to prepare for cross-border links.

Your profile:

  • Successful completion of a PhD in physics.

  • A high level of creativity and independent thinking.

  • Experience in quantum optics and/or quantum communication.

  • Interest in quantum technologies and/or their application.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a detailed curriculum vitae including a list of publications, PhD certificate and the electronic (e-mail) contact details of at least two potential referees.

The group of R. Kaltenbaek pursues a non-discriminatory employment policy and values equal opportunities, as well as diversity. The group lays special emphasis on increasing the number of women in senior and in academic positions. Given equal qualifications, preference will be given to female applicants.
