The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Lehigh University invites applications for
a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2023. We seek candidates with expertise in
18th, 19th or 20th/21st Century France with a focus on one of these areas: Women and Gender
Studies, Colonial Studies, Posthumanism, Ecocriticism, Postcolonialism, Critical Race Studies, Black
France, or Visual/Performance Studies. A native or near native fluency in French and English is
required. Candidates should have a PhD in French and Francophone Studies or a related field by the
date of hire. The regular teaching load is 2 courses per semester, and the successful candidate will teach French
language courses at all levels as well as content courses focusing on their area of expertise. The
selected candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to building a French and Francophone
Studies program. In addition to the department offerings, the successful candidate will also be able to
contribute to one of our interdisciplinary programs, such as Global Studies, Women, Gender &
Sexuality Studies, Africana Studies, or Film Studies. Excellence in teaching and clear promise of
scholarship are crucial. Candidates should submit a cover letter, C.V., research statement, teaching statement, description
of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, a graduate transcript, and three letters of
recommendation. Select candidates will be asked to submit a writing sample. Candidates from
