The Institute for Quantum Information and Matter (IQIM) at Caltech invites applications for postdoctoral scholar positions in quantum science to begin in the Fall 2023. IQIM research spans Caltech’s departments of physics, applied physics, materials science, electrical engineering, computer science, and chemistry, and addresses a wide variety of experimental and theoretical research topics. These topics include, but are not limited to, quantum information science, quantum many-body physics in condensed matter and atomic systems, topological states of matter, quantum optics and light-matter interactions at the quantum level, quantum cavity-optomechanics, and quantum metrology. IQIM also has active visitor, seminar, and outreach programs. Applicants will be asked to name at least one Caltech faculty member they would like to work with. That faculty member need not be affiliated currently with IQIM. Electronic copies of your curriculum vitae, publication list (refereed papers on top), statement of research interests (no more than 5 pages, excluding references), and three letters of recommendation are required. Review of applications begins on November 15, 2022; applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all materials by that date. The appointment is contingent upon completion of a Ph.D.

Caltech has implemented a mandatory vaccination policy effective October 15, 2021, requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for all employees (with Institute-approved exemptions for religious or medical contraindications only). At present, an individual is deemed “fully vaccinated” when that person has received, at least 14 days prior, either the second dose in a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series (e.g., Pfizer or Moderna) or a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., Johnson & Johnson). Upon eligibility, employees are required to receive the COVID-19 booster as part of the vaccine mandate. As a condition of employment, employees must submit official COVID-19 vaccine documentation.
