|The Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position (Assistant Research Scientist) related to studies of stellar astrophysics, to work with Dr. Jason Kalirai. The appointment is for two years, and is available in the spring or summer of 2013. The successful candidate will work on several projects related to ground and space based imaging and ground based spectroscopy of resolved stellar populations (e.g., open and globular star clusters). One of the goals of this research is to constrain aspects of stellar evolution theory, such as timescales and mass loss rates. The candidate will lead the planning, execution, and analysis of these projects. Part of the research will be associated with ultra-deep HST investigations of the stellar populations of nearby star clusters. Independent research in related areas with other members of the JHU and neighboring Space Telescope Science Institute's research staff will be strongly supported and encouraged.
Candidates should possess a PhD in astronomy or expect to obtain one very soon. Ideal candidates should also have a background in resolved stellar populations and stellar evolution, and be familiar with photometric or spectroscopic techniques for UV, optical, or near-IR astronomy.
