Assistant Professor Computer Science

Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts and is strongly committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity. These values are central to our mission. We strive for a climate of respect and inclusiveness that welcomes and supports members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, is committed unreservedly to open and free inquiry, and deliberately seeks out multiple perspectives.

We invite applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, starting Fall 2023. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Science Education; the degree should be completed by August 2023.

Xavier’s computer science department seeks a colleague interested in helping us embed community-engaged and socially relevant computing throughout our curriculum. Candidates should have an interest in helping grow a diverse and inclusive student community while teaching a variety of undergraduate courses, including their own specialty. Along with a B.A. and B.S. in computer science, Xavier’s computer science program is integral to the university’s programs in cybersecurity and data science.

Xavier is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment; we welcome a broad spectrum of candidates, and particularly invite applications from individuals who are under-represented in the field and who reflect the diversity of our students. The successful candidate will be able to engage diverse groups of students in learning opportunities.

Candidates must be committed to outstanding teaching in a liberal arts tradition of active learning, the development of a sustainable scholarly research program, and service consistent with Xavier’s Mission Statement. We are particularly interested in candidates whose activities encourage student participation in scholarly activities.

Xavier University was recently recognized by the NSA as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense in conjunction with our validated concentration in cybersecurity.

Xavier University is one of only 361 colleges and universities to receive the 2015 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Our new faculty member will be designated as a Community-Engaged Early-Career Faculty. As part of a cohort of incoming community-engaged faculty, our new colleague will have access to programs that provide resources of time, money, and mentoring for development of community-engaged and socially relevant curriculum.

A complete application includes a cover letter; a curriculum vitae; a statement on teaching; a statement of research achievements and aspirations; graduate transcripts; and three letters of recommendation. These items should be submitted online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/23088. To ensure full consideration, all materials must be received before review of applications begins on November 14, 2022.
