Title: Research Scientist - Duke University Pratt School of Engineering

Immediate Need

About the Duke Intravascular Oxygenator Catheter

Our team of medical doctors and engineers has been working on the development of a novel intravascular oxygenator catheter (see https://doi.org/10.1002/bit.27574 ). An opportunity exists to join our team and help shape device development. Specifically, the work will include device development and preclinical studies of membrane oxygenation systems using in vitro experimentation, computer modeling, and in vivo animal studies.

Job responsibility:

• Plan and coordinate the research program (in collaboration with PIs and Co-PIs) to effectively meet scientific and project milestones as related to the development of highly-efficient membrane oxygenation systems. • Collaborate with investigators both at Duke (School of Medicine and Pratt School of Engineering) and at outside institutions to accomplish scientific and project milestones. • Independently design and execute experiments to be performed in accordance with FDA-accepted standards (ASTM and ISO). Interpret and analyze data. Prepare data for presentation. • Lead the writing and editing of peer-reviewed manuscripts • Assist with preparation and presentation of executive summaries and reports to the Food and Drug Administration • Supervise undergraduate or graduate student(s) associated with the project

Candidate Requirements:

• PhD degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering • Research experience with blood oxygenation, hollow fiber membranes as gas delivery systems or very closely related experience. Please do not apply if your expertise does not match. • Hands on experience with stepping motors, micro-controllers (Arduino or similar) • Comfortable working with blood and with large animals (pigs) for device testing

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Experience with medical device development, FDA approvals
