INTRODUCTION 

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a research position in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the rank of Research Scientist. Some areas of particular departmental strength include language development in diverse populations.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the intellectual development and management of NIH-funded research projects investigating parent-child interaction, home language environment, and language development in young children with and without hearing loss. The contribution will be measured in terms of high-quality publications authored or co-authored. The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective mentoring of students in research, community engagement, and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through research and/or community engagement the commitment to, and support of, diversity in the learning experience; and integrate multicultural experiences into research tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned Ph.D. in speech, language, and hearing sciences, psychology, linguistics, or a related field. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
  • A proven record of excellence in research and mentoring and a deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expertise in early language acquisition and methodologies used in that field (e.g., head-mounted eye tracking, LENA, intermodal preferential looking procedure).
  • Technical proficiency/ability to learn and troubleshoot new technologies.
  • Experience working with children and their caregivers.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 11-month, non-tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of May 2023. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.
