Assistant Professor Tenured Track – Electrical and Computer Engineering 2 positions available The University of Akron

Position Summary The University of Akron, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking applicants for two full-time tenure track (TT) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of Fall 2023 in emerging areas of power and controls. Research is a critical aspect of these positions and candidates will be expected to establish nationally recognized research programs and attract external competitive funding from federal, state and industry sources. The successful candidates will actively mentor and educate graduate and undergraduate students. Additional duties include updating and maintaining lecture and laboratory courses, technical currency, actively participating in the university, college, department, and program committee work, assessment/accreditation responsibilities, student recruitment, and other duties as assigned.

Position 2: (14026) • Control systems applications, such as distributed and autonomous systems • Robotics • Data-driven approaches, optimization, machine learning and AI

About the Department The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is a well-established unit in the College of Engineering and Polymer Science. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as BS and AAS degrees in EEET. There are currently 16 full-time and 6 part-time faculty members in the department. The department will be hiring 4 new faculty members starting Fall 2023. Faculty within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently pursue research in power and energy systems, control systems, electronics, networking and communications, cybersecurity, sensors, AI and machine learning, and computational electromagnetics. There are state of the art research and teaching laboratories and testing facilities. Center of Advanced Vehicles and Energy Systems (CAVES) hosts a DOE funded commercial dynamometer facility, prototyping and testing facilities for power electronics, sensors, electronic circuits, batteries, electric machines, renewable energy systems, power distribution and transmission network. The department hosts a high power microgrid test bed for the integration of renewable energy systems. CAVES has worked with 50+ companies over the past 10 years and attracted over $25M funding for research in the areas of power, control and sensors. Required Qualifications An earned Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a closely related area. Applicants must demonstrate a track record of research with publications based on prior research work and the ability to carry out nationally competitive research in emerging areas of power and controls. Applicants must be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses relevant to their area of research, and direct Master’s and Ph.D. student research while preparing them for competitive careers in academia and industry.

Compensation and Benefits The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
