Art Historian—Modernist. COLGATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for a year Visiting Assistant Professor position starting July 1, 2023; completion of PhD prior to or shortly after the date of hire required. We are seeking candidates with expertise in modern art movements prior to the mid-20th century; geographic area of specialization is open. We are especially interested in candidates whose scholarship and teaching considers the modern period in a transnational context. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with interdisciplinary university programs such as: Africana and Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, as well as Film and Media Studies. The candidate will be expected to teach 5 courses over the 2023-2024 academic year. Contributions will include introductory and advanced courses related to the history of art and architecture from roughly 1850-1950. Responsibilities may also include senior thesis advising. An interest in contributing to our program in Museum Studies is also welcome.
