Cornell University’s Department of Performing and Media Arts seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor with expertise in screenwriting for a two year, full-time position beginning July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2025. We are looking for a dynamic and innovative artist with a secondary field of interest, which could include directing, producing, editing, writing for television or podcasts, etc. The candidate will teach undergraduate students in our major in Performing and Media Arts, which combines interdisciplinary practice in film, media studies, theatre, and dance. Courses would include screenwriting and elective courses in the candidate’s secondary interest.

Successful candidates have some experience teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts context and must be practicing artists with a record of creative achievement in narrative film, television, and media (including produced work; award-winning scripts; professional acknowledgement such as collaborations with established production companies, leading development labs, staffing in a writer’s room, etc.).

The teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will also engage in the intellectual life of the department beyond its teaching mission. We are interested in recruiting candidates who demonstrate commitment to the highest standards of artistry, teaching, and professional activity consistent with a Research I university.
