Position: Associate in Research
Location: Department of Economics at Duke University in Durham, NC, USA
Reports to: Professor of Economics, Duke University
Start Date: February 1, 2023
Length of Commitment: 5 months
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifying candidates will be graduates of well-regarded masters (programs in economics and related fields. Some prior research experience preferred but not required. Strong candidates will also possess:
• Strong quantitative and statistical skills;
• Significant coursework and experience in economics;
• Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills;
• Genuine interest in economics, policy, and research;
• A positive attitude and be flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player;
• The ability to handle several different projects/tasks at one time, successfully complete tasks assigned, and meet deadlines;
• A willingness and desire to work hard and learn.
Language Requirement: English (fluent)
Responsibilities:
• Support students in learning a range of machine learning techniques to enable them to building economic databases in areas without good data, in particular the Ukraine.
• Coordinate projects with the Ukrainian Central Bank and work with Duke-Ukrainian teams of students to understand the implications of newly generated data.
• Train students on satellite night light techniques and standard applied econometrics as well as data reduction techniques
