WORCESTER RECOVERY CENTER AND HOSPITAL The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School
(UMass Chan) seeks a full-time (40 hours per week) board-certified/board-eligible psychiatrist to
serve at The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) in Worcester, MA as Associate Facility Medical Director. The Associate Facility Medical Director must also be board-certified/board eligible in forensic psychiatry. Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is a state-of-the art hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health that cares for adults with serious mental health conditions in continuing care and acute forensic units. As a primary teaching site for UMass Chan, the Associate Facility Medical Director may work with residents, medical students, and other disciplines.
The Associate Facility Medical Director is a physician leader who, in collaboration with the
Facility MedicalDirector, champions clinical excellence in all facets of psychiatric care at WRCH, with a particular responsibility for forensic psychiatric services. This position will lead, manage, and provide back-up coverage, for the forensic psychiatric service at WRCH. Forensic service management includes, but is not limited to:
• Providing direct care to a half caseload of forensic patients.
• Coordinating forensic care with the WRCH legal department and with the Department of
Mental Health’s central office legal services, forensic services, and the Office of Inpatient Management.
• Facilitating ongoing review of patients under forensic evaluation to ensure clinically efficient
and timely completion of court-ordered forensic evaluations.
• Leading the clinical physician-review of all required risk assessments, including
independent forensic risk assessments (IFRAs).
• Mentoring staff psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners in the provision of required
forensic testimony in court and directly provide testimony, as needed, in cases involving significant clinical complexity and/or risk.
