Civilizational discourses have been around since the 18th century and Asian ones since the late 19th and especially the 20th centuries. In recent years, China has hitched civilizational discourse to the environment and ecology in the program of ‘Ecological Civilization’ begun in 2007 and accelerated in the last ten years. The Research Associate will look for Chinese language materials and archives that explore the connections of this discourse, particularly with the Chinese BRI projects overseas. The researcher should spend 10-15 hours a week and send weekly or fortnightly reports to PI Prasenjit Duara (pd77@duke.edu). Details will be worked out with the History Department and prof. Duara. Please submit your CV, cover letter, and a research statement with your application on Academic Jobs Online.
