Assistant Professor, Organic Chemistry

Benedictine University is a liberal arts institution located in the research corridor of metropolitan Chicago with nationally recognized undergraduate programs in the sciences. The College of Science, of which the Chemistry Department is a part, is in the midst of tremendous growth in the area of life sciences, and consistent with the Universityâ€™s vision statement, the institution is making a significant commitment of resources to support programs in the College.
Position Descriptions: Benedictine University invites applications for two tenure-track positions within the Chemistry Department at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall, 2014. However, exceptionally strong candidates deserving of the Associate Professor rank will also be considered subject to approval by the Provost. The Chemistry Department is currently reviewing and revising the curriculum for undergraduate general chemistry and organic chemistry laboratories to incorporate real-world applications, and is searching for candidates with strong backgrounds in best laboratory practices and green chemistry methods to lead in curriculum development and innovation for these courses. The expectations are as follows:
Â· Organic Chemistry laboratory curriculum innovation and teaching of organic chemistry lecture and lab courses.
Successful candidates will establish and participate in externally funded research. Startup funds are available.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree plus postdoctoral experience and a strong commitment to involving undergraduates in research are required. Candidates having background in any chemistry discipline are invited to apply. In order to diversify and strengthen the professional specialization within the Chemistry Department, preference will be given for candidates with a research background and interest in the development of green chemistry methods and/or environmental chemistry. Prior teaching experience and an interest in interdisciplinary curriculum development are highly desirable. Candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the USA at time of appointments.
