Position
Overview
The College of Arts and Sciences (ASC), seeks an Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) to join our team. This is a 75% appointment; the remaining 25% will be a tenured Associate Professor or Professor appointment in an appropriate ASC department or school. The initial appointment as associate dean is for four years and is renewable based on performance. The associate dean will, during their tenure, have reduced expectations for research, teaching, engagement, and service in their home department or school. At the end of the associate dean appointment, the successful candidate will have a 100% tenured appointment in their home department or school.
The associate dean will work closely with the college leadership team, administrative staff, and academic departments and schools to develop, promote, coordinate, and advise on DEIJ initiatives across the college. As associate dean, they will convene and chair the college’s diversity committee and serve on the Dean’s Council to ensure that DEIJ objectives are articulated and implemented in the ongoing work of the college and are in line with the goals of the college’s strategic plan. In addition, they will represent the college as the ASC Chief Diversity Officer at university-wide meetings regarding strategy for and implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives. They will also participate in national diversity trainings and meetings as appropriate. The associate dean will supervise an assistant dean of DEIJ and an executive assistant.
Education
and Experience Requirements
Required: Successful candidates will have a tenurable record of scholarly achievement in an arts and science discipline.
Desired: Demonstrated effective leadership and administrative experience in academia. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below).
