Position Description
Computer Science & Software Engineering: The College of Engineering and Computing is looking to fill multiple Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure-track) positions to teach undergraduate and graduate students; establish and maintain a strong research program; advise students and supervise graduate research; provide service to the institution. Anticipated start date: Fall 2024. The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering is one of the largest at Miami. It offers undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science and in software engineering as well as a Bachelor of Arts in computer science. A Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education has been established, through which the department offers a BS in Cybersecurity and graduate coursework in cybersecurity and maintains a strong research program. A Master of Science in Computer Science degree is currently the highest degree program offered by the department. The total number of undergraduate majors is approximately 900. Over 55 students are enrolled in the growing research focused master’s program. We take pride in having smaller classes and our average class size is typically near 31. The faculty currently comprises 35 full-time individuals. Miami University is ranked 18th in the nation for its commitment to undergraduate teaching by US News & World Report. In 2024, the Department will be moving into the new McVey Data Science Building to foster collaborative and transdisciplinary research. Miami University is ranked 3rd in the nation for excellence in undergraduate teaching by US News & World Report with CS mentioned as the top performer on social mobility. The University is a medium sized institution that has its main campus in Oxford, OH. It is a picturesque college town that was recently cited by Yahoo as the #3 College Town in the United States. Offering a safe environment that is surrounded by rural areas, Oxford is close to both Cincinnati and Dayton which offer diverse cuisines, concerts, operas, professional and amateur sporting events, and other multicultural entertainment. Required: Doctorate in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity or a closely related field (ABDs may apply but all degree requirements must be completed by date of appointment). Doctorate is required by December 31, 2024 for appointment to a second year. Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor requires an established record of high-quality teaching and scholarship/research with a strong prospect for continuation. Ability to teach courses in computer science, software engineering and/or cybersecurity. Consideration will be given to candidates with a record of published research/scholarship in computer science, software engineering, or cybersecurity and/or experience teaching in higher education. Areas of particular interest include: software engineering, parallel and distributed computing, database systems, cybersecurity, and natural language processing.
