Position Description
The George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications to fill multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. At the epicenter of the world’s energy industry, Rice University engineers are designing and implementing solutions to the world’s growing energy needs. Research at Rice is rooted in unconventional collaborations across disciplines, departments, and across the spectrum of science and humanities.
We encourage candidates in the area of Energy and Sustainability to apply. We are seeking candidates that are doing pioneering work relevant to the water-energy-climate nexus including renewable energy, energy storage, water treatment and re-use, energy-efficient separation processes, recovery of critical minerals and metals, biochemical conversion technologies to produce renewable chemicals and fuels, environmental impacts of energy, hydrocarbon exploration and conversion, seismic data processing, sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure, sustainable chemical manufacturing, power systems, systems-level modeling, and environmental fluid dynamics. Candidates may seek to investigate these areas experimentally, theoretically, and/or computationally, from molecular to systems-level. Outstanding candidates at higher ranks may also be considered.
The selected candidate will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses within their expertise; perform high-quality research in their specialized area and present findings from their research in peer-reviewed publications and conferences; establish a strong research program supported by extramural funding; be involved in service to the university and broader scientific community; and collaborate with faculty in diverse disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications
All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field conferred by the year employment commences and professional experience consistent with the position rank. All applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and collegial service.
