Position Description

The Astronomy Department at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for postdoctoral researchers working on cosmology and large-scale structure. We anticipate hiring for two positions; at least one will be focused on analysis and interpretation of data from HETDEX (https://hetdex.org/), which uses clustering traced by Lyman alpha emitting galaxies to measure the z=2.4 Hubble expansion rate to 0.9% and the angular diameter distance to 0.9%. The survey is 85% complete, with final observations in 2024.

The successful candidates will work primarily with Professors Muñoz, Boylan-Kolchin, and Gebhardt, and will join the vibrant cosmology community at UT, including the McDonald Observatory, expansive theoretical and observational efforts in cosmic-dawn science (including leadership in multiple large JWST programs), and partners in the Physics and Statistics and Data Science departments. They will also have access to the world-class supercomputing facilities of the Texas Advanced Computing Center (https://www.tacc.utexas.edu/). UT Austin has a large astronomy program, and is committed to support the academic success of all members of its community. The appointment is for an expected period of three years (renewed yearly) with a start date as early as January 1, 2024 and no later than September 2024. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Applications will include a cover letter, CV, list of publications, a statement of research accomplishments and plans (up to 3 pages), and 3 letters of recommendation. A PhD is required prior to the start of the appointment. Review of applications will begin on December 1st, 2023.
