Description
The Astronomy Department at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the inaugural Cosmic Frontier Prize Postdoctoral Fellowship. Frontier Fellows will be housed in the Cosmic Frontier Center (CFC), where they will perform independent research projects in collaboration with one or more CFC faculty members. The CFC is a new center (https://astronomy.utexas.edu/research/cosmic-frontier-center) in the Astronomy Department focused on galaxy formation in the early universe, uniting observers and theorists to solve the most pressing problems in this area combining cutting-edge observations with state-of-the-art computer simulations. We anticipate hiring a cohort of at least two fellows this year, with additional fellows added to the cohort in future years. The CFC will promote a vibrant research atmosphere with several events, from weekly research discussions, to an annual showcase conference. Fellows will have the opportunity to collaborate in high-visibility JWST programs led by CFC faculty, including existing programs such as CEERS, COSMOS-Web, Glimpse, and NGDEEP. Fellows will also have access to high-performance computing resources within the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and the McDonald Observatory facilities. UT Austin has a large astronomy program, and is committed to support the academic success of all members of its community. By the anticipated starting date of 9/1/2024 the applicants should have obtained a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics. The appointment is for an expected period of three years (renewed annually based on performance and funding availability). Starting salary will be $75,000, and a $10,000 annual research budget will be provided. Additional funds for moving expenses and computing will be available.
