Position Description
The Department of Statistical Science at Duke University seeks a research scientist to support the education mission of the department by providing instruction and technical support to the department’s undergraduate service courses. These courses span both the theory and practice of statistical science and tend to have large enrollments and multiple lab sections. Knowledge of the material covered in these courses is required. The course load will typically be between 1 and 3 courses per semester depending on departmental needs, the candidate's qualifications, and the candidate’s pedagogical activities. Salary will depend on qualifications and responsibilities.This position will report to the Department Business Manager for all administrative matters and work in conjunction with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and instructional faculty for matters pertaining to the service courses. During the academic year, this position will have the responsibility to support our service courses. During the summer months, this position may be involved in teaching summer courses and evaluating and improving the course materials and infrastructure for the coming academic year.
The responsibilities for this position include course logistics, management of workflows and course personnel, and supporting the instruction through technology support, etc. A comprehensive list of duties is available.
The position requires a PhD degree in Statistical Science or a related field plus 5 years postdoctoral experience. Experience serving as a Teaching Assistant or Instructor (undergraduate or graduate) and mastery of basic statistical concepts is preferred.
