Physics Department UC Irvine
Area of Research: Condensed Matter Physics and Theory of Quantum Matter

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the group of Prof. Thomas Scaffidi at the University of California, Irvine, starting in Fall 2024.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research in the area of condensed matter physics and the theory of quantum matter, under the supervision of Prof. Scaffidi. The Postdoctoral Fellow should have experience in at least one of the following topics:
• Superconductivity and other correlated phases in novel materials, including van der Waals materials
• Quantum dynamics, broadly defined
• Variational quantum algorithms

More information about these areas of interest can be found on the group website: Active collaboration with other research groups at UC Irvine (both theoretical and experimental) will be encouraged.

Required qualifications:
• PhD in Theoretical Condensed Matter physics or in a closely related field
• Solid background in analytical and numerical methods of many-body quantum physics
• Experience with computational approaches like Krylov methods, Tensor Networks, Machine Learning, Quantum Monte Carlo,…
All individuals interested in this position must submit a CV, a research statement, and should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent through AcademicJobsOnline. Questions should be directed by email to Prof. Scaffidi.

Closing date: Initial review of the applications will start on January 1st 2024, but we will continue to receive applications until the position is filled.
