Position Description:    

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (NYU Tandon) invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the level of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024. Senior ranks will be considered for qualified candidates.

Description We seek strong candidates working in a broad set of research areas within computer science. Areas of focus for this search are: visualization and data engineering; cybersecurity (especially in the areas of Emerging Media, Health, Sustainability, Systems, and Responsible Technology); and theory with applications to other research areas (e.g., Theory + Responsible Computing, Theory + Data Management, Theory + Scientific Computing, etc.).

Qualifications Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. We seek an individual with a strong record of scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, entrepreneurship, and the potential to develop an excellent funding record. Competitive salaries and startup packages will be offered. New appointees are expected to be outstanding scholars and to participate in teaching at all levels from undergraduate to doctoral. NYU offers an excellent scholarly environment, with a large and rapidly expanding group of faculty members working in computer and data science.

The CSE department has 21 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, including 13 NSF CAREER Award winners, as well as 13 contract faculty members. The department has a history of collaborative research across NYU, including with the Center for Data Science, the Center for Urban Science and Progress, the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Global School of Public Health, the Grossman School of Medicine, and other Tandon School of Engineering Departments.

Departmental research areas include algorithms and theory; big data management, analysis, and visualization; machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI); security and privacy. We also have groups working in interdisciplinary research areas such as AI for games, cybercrime, online political communication, public health and social media, responsible AI, sports analytics, and urban computing.

Additional Information In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (for 9-month) range for this position is $125,000-$195,000 for the Assistant Professor rank.
