About the Role

The Centre for Geometry Analysis and Gravitation (GAnG) of the School of Mathematical Science is seeking up to three outstanding theorists working in the following fields: quantum or conformal field theory (QFT or CFT), black hole physics, holography and AdS/CFT, de Sitter (cosmology, field theory, gravity), quantum information, and/or matrix models. The successful candidate will hold (or be about to receive) a PhD (or equivalent) in physics or mathematics and have expertise in aspects of theoretical physics relevant to the position mentioned above. Moreover, they are expected to work with academics, postdocs and PhD students in the School, and bring research experience in several of the key areas mentioned above. They will be required to have strong analytical skills, to be an effective team player and to be able to work independently.

About the School

The School of Mathematical Science has an exceptionally strong research presence across the spectrum and has large and popular undergraduate and graduate programmes. This position will be based in the Centre for Geometry, Analysis and Gravitation. The School is home to four other Centres and is part of QMUL’s Gravitational Wave initiative together with the Department of Physics. The School comprises 85 academic staff, 16 research assistants and 14 members of professional services staff, and is home to around 80 PhD students, 1,000 undergraduates and 100 master level students.

The posts are based at the Mile End Campus in London. These are full-time fixed-term appointments, one position for 2 years with a starting salary at Grade 4, in the range £40,223 - £42,405 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. The two remaining positions are for 3 years, with an expected start date of September 2024. For these, the starting salary will be Grades 4-5, in the range of £42,405 - £44,722 p/a, inclusive of London Allowance.
