Position Description

The Laboratory of theoretical physics in Toulouse has an open three-year fully funded PhD position in the field of theoretical one-dimensional quantum physics. The starting date is in the fall 2024 (before that is also possible). The aim of this PhD thesis is to theoretically address various questions in the field of one-dimensional quantum many-body systems, which are motivated by recent experiments with ultracold gases. We will focus on the motion of a distinguishable quantum particle (an impurity) through a many-body environment. The program will be carried out using the combination of state-of-the-art methods from the theory of many-body correlated systems including quantum field theory, Bethe ansatz, bosonization, effective field theories, etc. The work is planned to be mainly done analytically. However, treatment by numerical methods is not excluded. The selected candidate will become a member of the group dealing with strongly correlated systems with an expertize in a broad range of topics in condensed matter, such as the magnetism, superconductivity, and low-dimensional quantum matter.
