The Human Biology Program, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and the Health Studies Program, University College, in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time continuing teaching stream position in the area of Human Health and Disease in Global and Societal Contexts. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (51%) and the University College (49%).

Applicants must have a PhD in a Life Sciences discipline with an emphasis on the study of human health and disease within a public or global health context by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. A demonstrated record of excellence in Life Science teaching in human health and disease, particularly within a socio-economic and/or cultural determinants context, is an asset. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement our existing strengths in the Global Health, Health & Disease, and Human Biology programs within Human Biology Program and with the Health Studies program at University College. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree granting program at the undergraduate program level in Life Sciences subjects with an emphasis on human biology and its intersection with topics such as health promotion, behaviour and health, and/or health policy. Teaching experience should include lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Candidates also must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices, experience or interest in the enhancement of undergraduate experiential learning, and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or diverse students is preferred.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical practices can be demonstrated through: teaching accomplishments; awards and accolades; presentations at significant conferences; the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials and teaching evaluations; as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
