Position Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE-INTEGRATIVE MODELING OF LANGUAGE AND LOCOMOTION, Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS). We are seeking to fill a postdoctoral associate position as part of an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of language, cognition, and motor control, aiming to understand the cognitive constraints and computational principles that shape the ways in which humans use language to represent motor actions. The postdoctoral associate will be appointed at MIT and jointly mentored by Noga Zaslavsky, Nidhi Seethapathi, and Roger Levy, offering the opportunity to deepen the collaboration among the three PIs’ labs. Desired areas of expertise include computational cognitive science, machine learning, language science, and/or motor control. Background and/or interest in deep reinforcement learning, information theory, web-based experiments, and semantic typology is particularly relevant.

REQUIREMENTS: A PhD in computer science, cognitive science, linguistics or related field by the start date is required. The application requires the following: 1) a cover letter 2) a CV 3) a research statement (not to exceed three pages) describing the applicant’s broader research agenda and its potential synergies with the position 4) two samples of published or other written work, and 5) contact information for three referees in a position to comment on the applicant’s achievements and potential fit for the project.

We will review applications on a rolling basis starting March 31, 2024.

Target start date is summer or fall 2024, with potential flexibility.

Initial appointment is one year, with possibility of renewal.
