Position Description

apply for the Executive Director role for Duke University’s Master of
Engineering Management https://memp.pratt.duke.edu/ housed in Duke’s Pratt School of

As a part of this mission, the Master of Engineering Management provides high-impact education to meet rapidly evolving industry needs, providing world-class educational opportunities for both graduate students and working professionals.
The major responsibilities of this new Executive Director position will be (1) to lead the Master of Engineering Management Program and 2) to teach courses in the program. In this role, you will be expected to:
- Manage the Engineering Management program faculty, staff, operations, and budget, creating an inclusive and respectful work environment.
- Use feedback mechanisms (e.g., Net Promoter Score, town halls, focus groups) to track student sentiment, identify pain points and continuously improve the program.
- Actively market the program to prospective students to ensure delivery of a true global, diverse, multicultural experience.
- Continuously improve the Engineering Management curriculum based on industry feedback to ensure it prepares students for jobs of today and tomorrow.
- Provide an engaging student experience and a sense of community for all program stakeholders (staff, students, faculty, alumni)
- Build relationships within the Duke community and collaborate across department and school boundaries.
- Teach 2 courses each year within the Engineering Management curriculum.
- Connect and engage with industry partners regarding practicum projects, internships, career opportunities, seminar, and oversee the MEM industrial advisory board.
- Develop strategic plans to drive active engagement with 4,000+ MEM alumni.
- Serve on school and university committees as appropriate.
- Develop a long-term vision and implement strategic plans that further enhance MEM’s world class status.
Preferred candidates would have engineering/technology
management experience in either an academic or corporate setting. Industry
experience leading a technical group or organization, as well as
teaching/course development experience are beneficial. Existing
industry relationships in the engineering/technology management space are
highly desirable. This is expected to be an on-site, full-time position,
but other levels of commitment may be considered.
