Position Description:

The Biomedical Engineering Department at Duke University is seeking local middle and high school faculty to participate in the Outreach Design Education (ODE) Program directed by Professor Aaron Kyle. Successful applicants will be expected to spend five weeks of their summer as active learners in the Summer Design Camp. These individuals will be required to attend course sessions, refine their engineering design (EDP) process comprehension, and create course content for middle and high schools. This is a substantial commitment for teachers that might be conducting other revenue-generating activities during the summer and compensation will be provided for the six-week summer period. Upon completion of the program, the faculty will be charged with creating at least one engineering design course or module to be implemented within one (1) academic year of their initial participation in the ODE Summer Design Camp. The teacher enacts their course and reports on outcomes during the subsequent EDP Symposium, during which they devise design-based instructional improvements. Teachers are welcome, but not mandated, to join us for future summer programs. This is a part-time position that includes no base salary; therefore, individuals hired into this position are not eligible for regular full-time employee benefits.
