Position Description

Research Scholar
Cabeza Lab / Dr. Roberto Cabeza
Department of Psychology & Neuroscience / Center for Cognitive Neuroscience

Overview
The Cabeza Lab at Duke University uses behavioral and neuroimaging methods to investigate the cognitive and neural mechanisms of episodic memory and how they change in healthy and pathological aging. Our lab investigates cognitive and neural mechanisms of memory for personally-experienced past events, or episodic memory (EM), using a combination of behavioral and functional MRI (fMRI) methods.

Traditional fMRI studies focused on identifying the brain regions associated with different cognitive processes but more recent studies seek to understand the nature of the information stored in various brain regions, or representations, and how multiple brain regions interact with each other, or networks. At present, we are pursuing three main lines of research: EM representations, EM networks, and the effects of healthy and pathological aging on EM representations and networks. Recently, we started a new line of research on creativity and memory.

Essential Duties:
Research topics include episodic memory representations and networks, and the interactions between episodic memory and attention/control processes. Some studies include healthy older adults and individuals with mild cognitive impairment. The studies employ behavioral and fMRI methods, and the analyses include cutting-edge representational similarity analyses and graph theory.

Qualifications:
• Candidates with a Ph.D. in any area of cognitive neuroscience broadly defined (e.g., Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or a related field) are welcome to apply.

• Ideal candidates have
o Experience in fMRI research
o Strong computer skills
o Promising publication record
