JOB DESCRIPTION The Duke University Wetland and Coasts Center seeks a highly motivated Senior Research Scientist to work on funded projects related to carbon cycling in peatlands in the southeastern USA. A position is available immediately in the Wetland Center to work on carbon cycling in coastal pocosins peatlands. The candidates must be experienced with Eddy flux covariance measurements as well as wetland hydrology, ecology and modeling. Experience with field measurements of GHG fluxes, automated water level recorders, GHG =soil chambers as well as knowledge of peatland soils is critica. This position requires the candidate to have the ability to work in the field and direct students and technicians in field collections of soil, water and vegetation samples. The position will direct GHG research with a team of scientists on existing experimental sites measuring carbon budgets, soil chemistry, water quality and hydrologic budgets as well as help in the development of new projects focused on the use of restored coastal peatlands for carbon credits. This position comes with a one class teaching requirement: Wetland Ecology and Restoration to be taught in the fall or spring of each year of employment. The candidate will also be expected to advise no more than 4 masters students in the their master projects, assist with administration of the Duke Wetland and Coasts Center, maintenance of the lab, and be in charge of the SWAMP research program. TERM The initial term-limit for this grant funded position is five-years contingent upon sustainable resources secured by extramural funds and may be renewed based on additional funding stream, satisfactory work performance, and program priorities. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should hold a PhD in wetland ecology, biogeochemistry, soils, or a related field and have at least 5 years of experience.
