Position Description

POSITION Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Duke I&E) invites applications for a part-time Lecturing Fellow position (non-regular rank) to teach the Entrepreneurial Finance course as part of the Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Duke I&E) certificate program.

The course covers key topics for venture investors and startup founders working with venture capital. Students gain an understanding of the structure of venture capital funds, the role of risk versus return, and capital staging. The course also addresses the impact of dilution, expected returns, and important considerations around control and ownership. Additionally, students explore essential terms that influence control, while developing a clear understanding of how business strategy aligns with financing decisions. The course will prepare students to navigate venture capital from both investor and founder perspectives.

REQUIREMENTS Candidate must have practical experience in entrepreneurial finance with a preference for those with a complementary advanced degree, e.g. MBA.

Candidate must have a demonstrated track record of excellent classroom instruction skills in innovation and entrepreneurship. Additionally, an enthusiasm for working in a highly entrepreneurial setting and a desire to contribute to advancing the Duke I&E mission are desired.

RESPONSIBILITES Instruct one section of the Entrepreneurial Finance course, which is part of the Duke I&E Undergraduate Certificate. The course meets in person, once per week for the Spring 2025 semester from January 8 – May 3, 2025. The course is scheduled to meet weekly on Mondays from 10:05am to 12:35pm from January 8 – April 23, 2025.
