Position Description:

The Department of Physics at the University of Florida (UF) has an opening for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in theoretical particle physics to begin August 16, 2025. We seek highly qualified candidates from all areas of theoretical particle physics. Present faculty members have expertise in beyond the Standard Model physics, particle astrophysics, cosmology, gravitational wave physics, and quantum gravity.

This position offers the opportunity to interact with the Department’s extensive research efforts in complementary directions, including dark matter detection (ADMX, ALPS, SuperCDMS), experimental particle physics (CMS, Belle II, DUNE), gravitational wave detection (LIGO, LISA, NANOGrav), theoretical astrophysics, and condensed matter physics. It also provides access to the world-class HiPerGator research computing center.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent). Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, while establishing a well-recognized research program, is essential. Relevant postdoctoral research experience is preferred.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted online. A complete application includes (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae with publication list, (3) a research statement, (4) a teaching statement (in which you are welcome to discuss outreach activities and other contributions you’ve undertaken to enhance student experience), (5) a statement of broader impacts (as defined by the National Science Foundation) of past or planned future activities, (6) and the names and email addresses of at least three references must be provided. Reference providers will only be notified, and provided an upload link, once the application is submitted in full, so early completion of an application is highly recommended.

Applications will be reviewed beginning November 22, 2024, and the position will remain open until filled. Only complete applications will be reviewed at this time. Applications received after this date may be considered at the discretion of the committee and/or hiring authority. For more information, please contact Prof. Wei Xue (weixue@ufl.edu).
