Position Description
Career Track Faculty Positions – DCRI, B&B, DS&B
The Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), in partnership with Duke University and the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (B&B), is investing in the growth of Data Science and Biostatistics (DS&B). We invite applications for multiple career track faculty positions at any rank in the areas of (1) application of AI and ML and other new technologies to improve and enhance the clinical research process; and (2) clinical research informatics, data engineering, harmonization and architecture for multicenter studies. Successful applicants will join a team of 15 faculty who are affiliated with DS&B at DCRI and be members of the B&B Department (60+ faculty). There are extensive opportunities for career advancement, leadership of scientific initiatives, and strategic partnership with the clinical therapeutic areas at DCRI. The graduate programs at Duke University, including the B&B Master’s and PhD programs provide opportunities to engage with students. Joint appointments with other departments are possible for appropriate candidates.
We are seeking candidates with relevant expertise and commitment to at least one of the following focus areas, however we encourage diverse of scientific interests that may encompass multiple domains including these and others. Strong candidates will demonstrate a commitment to innovation and leadership of collaborative clinical research that is synergistic with their independent research.
AI.ML focus: enhancing the clinical research process by development of AI solutions, application of AI/ML, generative AI and application of other new technologies. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field by the date of the start of their appointment.
Clinical Research Informatics focus: clinical research informatics, health informatics, data engineering, harmonization and architecture. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or a related field by the date of the start of their appointment.
The application package should include a cover letter accompanied by an up to one-page diversity statement, a curriculum vitae, and a three-page statement of research (organized as one page summary of past research accomplishments and a two-page summary of your future research plans). New graduates are encouraged to submit up to 3 letters of recommendation in support of their application.
