POSITION: Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Mechanics)
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 18, 2014 (Fall Semester)
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has an opening for an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. This is a tenure-track faculty position. We seek applicants who are interested in both teaching and research. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for pursuing externally supported research and possess a strong interest in teaching and developing courses and labs. Faculty members are also expected to supervise student projects and theses, be active in technical and professional communities, and provide service to the university and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2014. Specialization in the area of Mechanics. Demonstrated potential, effective teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Evidence of successful independent research, scholarly and creative activities in related fields. Commitment to and/or expertise in educating a diverse student population.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the University/College level. Experience in teaching courses in the area of Mechanics. Demonstrated ability and clear plans for the development of research programs and curriculum in emerging and rapidly developing areas of Mechanics. Demonstrated ability to supervise student projects, develop courses and academic programs, update curriculum, supervise students' theses, and actively participate in academic governance. Demonstrated interest in contributing to the mission of the department, college, and university.
DUTIES:Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in or related to engineering mechanics, materials, and manufacturing, as well as undergraduate fundamental courses in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Develop new courses and laboratories; revise and update existing courses. Supervise student projects and theses. Write grant proposals and seek research funding; conduct independent and collaborative research leading to publication and external funding. Actively participate in department, college, university, and community service.
