Position Description
Research Associate in Trustworthy AI, Security, and Privacy A Research Associate position is available in the Michael Reiter group (https://scholars.duke.edu/person/Michael.Reiter) at Duke University. The successful candidate will conduct research at the intersection of computer security, privacy, and machine learning, with a particular emphasis on trustworthy AI, AI security, and methods for accountability and misuse detection in modern computing systems. The candidate will work on developing rigorous methods for improving the security, reliability, and accountability of machine learning systems. Research topics may include, but are not limited to: · auditing whether data has been used to train machine learning models, · detecting unauthorized or malicious use of sensitive data, · identifying data misuse in authentication and security systems, · privacy- and security-aware machine learning, · trustworthy and reliable AI systems, and · applying machine learning to security-relevant problems. The candidate will join a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment spanning multiple departments and research areas at Duke University and beyond, including Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and related domains. The position includes opportunities to collaborate on research proposals, publish in leading conferences and journals, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Ideal candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by the start date. Competitive applicants will have a strong research record in one or more of the following areas: · computer security, · data privacy, · trustworthy machine learning, · AI security, · applied cryptography, · statistical machine learning, or · machine learning for security. Strong programming skills (e.g., Python) are required. Experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, or security-oriented data analysis is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the potential to conduct independent, high-impact research and to contribute effectively in a collaborative research setting. The start date is flexible based on the candidate’s Ph.D. completion date.
