Position:          Assistant Professor of Spanish with a Specialization in
                   19th and 20th-Century Peninsular Literature

Effective Date:	   August 18, 2014 (Fall semester)

Salary Range:	   Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Spanish or related field or official notification
of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2014.  Native or near-native
fluency in Spanish and English. Research and publication record commensurate with
rank. Commitment to and/or expertise in educating a diverse student population.
Desired/Preferred
Qualifications:  
* Specialization in 19th and 20th-Century Peninsular literature and
  culture or related field.

* Experience or strong commitment to working in a foreign language department
  serving M.A. students, majors and minors in several languages.

* Experience teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture courses at the
  graduate (M.A.) and undergraduate levels.

* Publications in area of desired specialization or related field.

* Experience and interest in the use of technology and the development of hybrid or
  online courses.

* Background or experience in translation and/or multilingualism studies.

* Ability to teach another language offered by the department.
Duties:	
* Teach courses appropriate to disciplinary expertise and to the specific
  academic assignment: language and survey courses at the upper-division level;
  develop and teach courses in the area of specialization for the B.A. and the M.A.
  programs;

* Maintain an active research program and profile;

* Undertake grant writing and development projects that promote the departmental
  mission;

* Collaborate in assessment planning and implementation;

* Advance the department's educational and research mission through curricular
  initiatives;

* Collaborate with coordinator of the teacher credential program (Single Subject
  Program in Languages Other Than English);

* Enhance departmental profile throughout the University and the Long Beach
  community;

* Provide service to department, college, university and community committees as
  appropriate.
