|Endowed Chair Professor: Director of Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics Lehigh University seeks nominations and applications for a senior professor to direct the Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics (CPN), a multi-disciplinary center for research and education with the mission to advance the science and application of photonics and nanoelectronic technologies, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and synergy, and pursue broad integrative research center activities and funding. CPN was formed through the merger of the Center for Optical Technologies (COT) and the Sherman Fairchild Center (SFC) for Solid-State Studies, and combines the strengths and diverse expertise of faculty members from multiple departments, primarily Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, and Materials Science and Engineering. Cross-institutional partnerships are promoted to enhance scientific discovery and innovation. The broad spectrum of CPN research activities in photonics and nanoelectronics spans the range from fundamental research in novel materials and platforms, to device simulation, fabrication and characterization, and system-level investigations. Areas of current emphasis include (but are not limited to) nanophotonics, compound semiconductor devices, lasers, solid-state lighting, nonlinear optics, active glasses, solar cells, nanoscale fabrication and characterization, energy-efficient electronics, terahertz imaging, biophotonics and bioimaging, bioelectronics/bioMEMS, nanoelectronics, solid state devices, integrated micro/nano-systems, and displays, particularly as they support University initiatives in health, energy, environment, and infrastructure. CPN is established under a major university-wide initiative; resources through substantial endowment funds and indirect cost returns are made available in support of CPN's portfolio of research.
Candidates should have demonstrated the vision and leadership required to serve as Director of the Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics and have a distinguished record of research on one or more aspects of these broad research areas. The Center Director will project a comprehensive vision for the Center to its diverse constituents, and will be expected through their efforts to secure multi-agency research support for broad integrative research activities. Excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and the integration of research and education are core values of Lehigh's mission.
This is a senior appointment to an endowed chair position. Applicants should submit a cover letter, complete curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, and the names and contact information for at least three references on-line at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/3381. To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by December 15, 2013, although applications will be accepted until the position is filled. A start date of August 15th 2014 or sooner is preferred.
