The Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) at Northwestern University invites applications for *two* postdoctoral positions to support the development of a groundbreaking high-speed near-infrared (0.9 – 1.7 micron) detector system. This camera will be based on new electron-injection detector technology, and will be placed in a telescope system, with the ultimate goal of imaging exoplanets (see http://www.northwestern.edu/newscenter/stories/2015/07/new-camera-to-helpsearch-for-life-outside-our-solar-system.html for a press release about the supporting grant). The project is both extremely exciting and challenging; the W.M. Keck Foundation funds no other types of projects.
One of the postdoc positions is an immediate opening for a Ph.D. with a strong background in Adaptive Optics instrumentation. In particular, knowledge of electronic interfaces and cryo-systems is important.
The other postdoc position is an immediate opening for a Ph.D. with a strong background in III-V device processing and characterization. Experience with InGaAs/InP material systems, photodetectors, surface passivation, indium bump bonding, and imagers in the short wave infrared (SWIR) is highly desirable.
The appointments as W.M. Keck Postdoctoral Fellows will be for a 3-year term starting as soon as possible. Each position comes with a competitive benefits package.
Please submit applications electronically. Applications should include a CV, a three-page statement of research accomplishments and plans, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be uploaded to Academic Jobs Online (preferred) or sent to the address below. Applications will be considered until both positions are filled. The review of submitted applications will start 1 Oct, 2015.
Please state which postdoc position you are applying for in your cover letter. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. requirements prior to appointment.
Applications from women and minority candidates are especially encouraged.
