|Macalester College invites applications for a position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of French and Francophone Studies, renewable up to three years, and beginning August 2017.
Primary Area of specialization: Sub-Saharan Francophone literatures and cultures.
The department is seeking candidates with strong teaching skills who will contribute to the broadening of the French and Francophone Studies curriculum. Candidates should have primary expertise in sub-Saharan Francophone literatures and cultures (from West Africa to Central Africa), and should be able to teach French language from beginning to advanced levels. We are particularly interested in candidates with the ability to make their fields of expertise relevant to undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment and who have a strong teaching record. Native or near-native proficiency in French as well as excellence in teaching and in scholarship are required. Candidates should have completed their Ph.D. by time of appointment, and should have demonstrated commitment to liberal arts education.
Normal load is five courses a year, which includes a mix of language instruction and advanced courses, plus some participation in co-curricular activities.
The department has a dynamic French Lecture Series and programs activities at the French House and in Saint Paul and Minneapolis. There are also opportunities to collaborate with several interdisciplinary programs and departments on campus, including the African Studies program.
