|The Department of Classics at Yale University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with research interests in archaic and classical Greek history, to begin July 1, 2017. Applicants should have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment. Areas of research specialization can include social, economic, cultural, political, environmental, and legal history, as well as material culture. Ideally, the successful candidate will work in more than one of these fields and bring distinctive methodological and theoretical strengths. Yale has a thriving research community of ancient historians who participate in a larger network of more than sixty scholars of the premodern world coordinated through the Yale Initiative for the Study of Antiquity and the Premodern World (YISAP). The department seeks to foster dynamic, imaginative, and research-led teaching and places great value on the quality of undergraduate instruction and advising. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in supporting the Combined Program in Classics and History for the training of graduate students.
