Assistant Professor
Arizona State University
School of Politics and Global Studies

The School of Politics and Global Studies (SPGS) at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor in the area of Global Studies with substantive focus on political geography broadly defined. Anticipated start date is August 2017.

Consistent with the inter-disciplinary nature of SPGS, we seek applications from social scientists whose research and teaching interests engage important local, national, international and/or global social and political issues. We are specifically interested in applications from applicants whose work addresses the geographic or spatial elements of these issues, particularly as it relates to substantive areas such as economic development, economic and social inequality, public health, environmental change, humanitarian intervention, or similar topics. The position is open with respect to methodological focus; however, methodological sophistication in areas such as GIS, spatial econometrics, or other advanced statistical, experimental, or formal modeling skills, or the sophisticated use of mixed methods is expected.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant social science discipline (political science, geography, economics, sociology, etc.) by the time of appointment; demonstrated excellence in research commensurate with appointment at the level of assistant professor; an established or developing research agenda in political geography or a closely related area of inquiry; methodological sophistication; and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.

Desired qualifications: a record of publishing in top journals in the applicant's discipline; evidence of competitive external grants; the ability to teach courses in spatial analysis; demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.

The School of Politics and Global Studies grants a Ph.D., M.A., B.S. and B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Global Studies. The School offers a M.A. in Global Affairs and Management in conjunction with the Thunderbird School of Global Management. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute scholarship, teaching and service to advance these and other programs at ASU. The School of Politics and Global Studies values interdisciplinary scholarship, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to affiliate and collaborate with other schools and centers at Arizona State University.

Initial deadline for review of complete application is October 24, 2016; if not filled, review of complete applications will continue every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed. To apply, please submit via https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7852, the following application materials: a letter of application stating qualifications, experience, research plans, and teaching interests; a complete curriculum vita; a writing sample; and contact information (include email) for three references.
