The Imaging Facility of ASRC houses two premier FEI Titan TEM's. One being a new generation 300kV Titan Halo optimized for Cryo-EM using a side-entry cryo holder. The second being a new materials science 200kV (S)TEM Titan Themis with a Cs image corrector and a superX EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) detector. The facility also has the latest generation FEI Helios Nanolab 660 dualbeam FIB-SEM for characterization, sample preparation, and 3D visualization. In addition, the facility will be equipped with a 120kV LaB6 Tecnai Spirit for training and sample screening. All of these instruments will enable cutting-edge research across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
Reporting to the Imaging Facility Manager, the Electron Microscopy Specialist will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and management of a new, state-of-the-art FIB-SEM and (S)TEM. Duties include the Experimental research and development using (S)TEM and associated techniques (EDS, electron diffraction, electron energy loss spectroscopy, high resolution imaging) and provision of training of both FIB-SEM and TEM to internal and external users.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Focuses on operation and maintenance of FIB-SEM and (S)TEM; Trains/Guides users in sample preparation and operation of FIB-SEM and (S)TEM, including optimizing sample preparation procedures and contributing to production of training manuals; Contributes to planning and management of booking, access and finances to the facility; Contributes to planning of extensions or updates of the facility; Actively participates in collaborative research in the scientific areas supported at the ASRC; Keeps records of orders and supplies/consumables for the facility; Performs other duties as required.
