|Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (www.masdar.ac.ae) invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the Associate or Full Professor level in Space Systems Engineering to contribute to the newly developed graduate academic program in Space Systems and Technology with a focus on building small satellites. The Masdar Institute Master’s Concentration in Space Systems and Technology is offered in collaboration with satellite industry leaders Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), a Mubadala-owned satellite communications company, and Orbital ATK, an American aerospace manufacturing company. The students admitted to the program work in the newly founded YahSat Space Systems Laboratory in a project-based learning environment.
The concentration was developed to foster the advanced research areas in space science and technology needed to support the UAE national space program and space-related industries with human resources, technical advancements and infrastructure. We seek an experienced candidate to fill a key leadership position in this new program. The candidate should be able to lead the small satellite development activities and also be able to develop new research areas in space systems engineering related to the full life cycle of the space mission i.e., definition, design, integration, testing and operation of satellites.
Candidates with significant experience in space systems engineering; space mission analysis and design; and satellite development are encouraged to apply. The candidates should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: spacecraft system dynamics and control; integrated systems engineering; space-based communication systems, space instrumentation; orbit mechanics, spacecraft attitude control and space hardware integration.
Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in Aerospace Engineering or related field; have a solid publication and teaching record; and/or industrial experience and show commitment to excel in both research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to teach/coordinate the space program core course (Spacecraft Systems and Design) and to develop new courses in topics such as Space Applications (satellite communications, satellite navigation systems, remote sensing), Spacecraft Systems Design and Systems Engineering. The successful candidate is also expected to develop a cutting-edge research program, supervise MSc. and PhD students, show outstanding teaching at the graduate level, engage with both local and international stakeholders, and participate in Institute's service and outreach activities.
