The Department of Near Eastern Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, Cornell University, anticipates an opening for a dynamic Arabic language professional to join its team of Arabic instructors for a fulltime position as Lecturer of Arabic beginning in the academic year 2017-2018. The position is for one year, with a possibility of renewal for 3-year terms dependent upon performance reviews and funding availability. Requirements are: 1. Master's degree or equivalent in Arabic language, literature, linguistics, or language pedagogy; 2. Native or near native fluency in Arabic: oral fluency in spoken Arabic, preferably an eastern dialect such as Levantine, Iraqi or Gulf, and written fluency in Modern Standard Arabic; 3. Proficiency in spoken and written English; 4. Recognition of colloquial Arabic as a legitimate linguistic form, and willingness to teach colloquial Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic in the same course; 5. Willingness to work as a member of a small team of language instructors; 6. Familiarity with and commitment to innovative methods of language instruction.
