Applications are invited for up to three Research Associate (RA) positions in the Theoretical Physics Group of the Department of Physics at Imperial College London. Appointments will be for two years, but there is a possibility of an extension depending on future funding. The positions are funded primarily by an ERC Advanced Grant titled “Gravity, black holes and strongly coupled matter”. The RA will work with Professor Jerome Gauntlett and will also interact with other members of the Theory Group.
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Theoretical Physics (either awarded or anticipated) or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience.
Essential criteria include outstanding research experience in gauge-gravity duality, black holes, string theory, quantum field theory and/or related topics. You will have experience in carrying out research of high quality, independently and in a team, with evidence provided by publications of high quality. It is also desirable that the successful candidate has experience in using the AdS/CFT correspondence to study topics related to condensed matter systems and/or the quark gluon plasma. Candidates currently working primarily in condensed matter with a strong theoretical background will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the Theoretical Physics group and submit publications to refereed journals and help with teaching and administration of small research groups.
