The International Studies Department at Macalester College seeks to hire, for the 2017-2018 academic year, a distinguished scholar or practitioner of Global Health to hold the Hubert H. Humphrey visiting professorship. Responsibilities include teaching a total of four undergraduate courses; two courses each semester. The average class size is 17.
A vibrant department at the heart of the College's mission, Macalester’s International Studies approaches a broad range of global phenomena from multiple disciplinary, regional, and trans-national perspectives. Successful candidates will have research and teaching interests in issues such as the economic, demographic, spatial and social dynamics of global health and disease; the role of travel, trade, migration, and urbanization on health; and the effect on global health of poverty, policies, philosophies, and ideologies.
We seek candidates with current and applied public health experience in international settings. We are especially seeking critical thinkers who creatively bridge their practical experience and scholarly inquiry. Geographic reach should be broad, but with specialization in one or more region. Candidates may be trained in any field or school, including but not limited to graduate schools of public health; medicine, economics, anthropology, sociology; interdisciplinary programs in regional or area studies; the medical humanities; and other fields as appropriate. This position will have a link to Macalester’s robust interdisciplinary Community and Global Health program.
The salary for this position is competitive. Benefits include health insurance, a moving subsidy, and occupancy of a comfortable home near campus, with all utilities paid.
