|As part of its Next Generation Program (http://secondcentury.gsu.edu/next-generation-program/) and pending budgetary approval, Georgia State University anticipates hiring for multiple tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor effective Fall 2017. These positions are part of GSU’s strategic initiative to lead in the application of big data analytics to problem domains that are of high priority to the University. The positions are specifically in the area of unstructured big data analytics.
Positions are available in the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department in the Robinson College of Business and in the Computer Science Department in the College of Arts and Sciences. The hiring plan is to recruit multiple faculty who will add depth and breadth in the area of unstructured data analytics including the processing and analysis of text, audio, video, and image data and the use of this data to derive insights about digital innovation in high-impact problem domains that complement understanding that may be derived from other types of data. The recruited faculty will contribute to interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research on digital innovation to solve business and societal problems through the use of unstructured data analytics.

The CIS Department is consistently ranked as a top department both in terms of its programs and research. For example, the department’s undergraduate program was recently ranked #7 in the nation by US News & World Report. Additionally, the department consistently ranks among the top 5 in terms of research productivity based on publications in MIS Quarterly and Information Systems Research.
The Robinson College of Business has placed a strategic emphasis on the area of analytics. This is reflected in the College’s Institute for Insight (http://insight.gsu.edu/) which has established industry partnerships to solve business-relevant problems, invested in faculty with a diverse set of analytics skills related to structured and unstructured data, and launched a Master of Science in Analytics program.
Applicants must have (1) technical and methodological expertise related to unstructured data analytics (e.g., analytics related to unstructured data flows from sensor networks, internet of things, GPS, social media as well as text, images, audio, and video content), (2) expertise to apply unstructured data analytics to investigate how digital innovation can provide insights into problems in business and other domains, and (3) the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. They must have an established record of scholarship that has resulted in, and will continue to result in, publications in premier scholarly journals in information systems as well as in widely regarded premier journals of other business and related disciplines. Applicants must have a PhD degree in a big data analytics-related discipline (e.g., information systems, computer science, engineering, or related disciplines) from an AACSB accredited university. They must also have strong evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
In addition to holding a faculty appointment in the CIS Department, the faculty member will be a member of the Robinson College of Business Center for Process Innovation (CEPRIN). CEPRIN is a college-level center for excellence in interdisciplinary research related to digital innovation to address business and societal problems. Faculty and PhD students associated with CEPRIN have been conducting research on digital innovation in a variety of areas including business and competitive strategy, economics of digital innovation, supply chains and customer processes, platforms, teams and social networks, healthcare, energy, and cybersecurity.
