|The Macalester College Department of Geology invites applications for an anticipated two-year full-time visiting assistant professor position to begin in Fall 2017. This position is a replacement for two consecutive sabbatical leaves (Mineralogy/Petrology and Geomorphology) but the successful candidate is not required to span both disciplines. Appointment to the second year is contingent upon successful completion of the first year. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in geology or a related field at the time of appointment. The teaching load is the equivalent of five courses per year (typically two courses and one lab section each semester). The candidate will be able to teach mineralogy in year 1 or geomorphology in year 2 (the ideal candidate would teach both). The successful candidate will teach additional courses related to their area(s) of expertise that would complement and enrich our existing introductory and upper level course offerings (e.g., geochemistry, soils/paleosols, Quaternary geology, volcanology, petrology, economic geology, among others). More information about the department can be found at www.macalester.edu/geology.
Applicants should submit: (1) a cover letter describing their interest in the position, (2) teaching and research statements, (3) summaries of course evaluations, and (4) a curriculum vitae (including contact information for references). Questions regarding this position may be directed to Dr. Raymond Rogers, Chair, Department of Geology, Macalester College, 1600 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105 (email: firstname.lastname@example.org). Applications will be considered beginning February 28, 2017.
